The club’s 70th anniversary banner has been updated to reflect the 90th birthday<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Queensland Country Women’s Association members from all over south-east Queensland gathered in Kingaroy on Wednesday to celebrate the 90th birthday of the association’s first branch.<\/p>\n

The Kingaroy branch was opened just 11 days after the QCWA was first formed in Toowoomba.<\/p>\n

Sheila Campbell, from Maranoa Division, got proceedings underway by reciting a poem written by Sally Burgess, from Goomeri, especially for the branch’s 70th birthday in 1992.<\/p>\n

South Burnett councillor Cheryl Dalton then read out a history of the branch to the visiting members and invited guests.<\/p>\n

Peter Verbakel, from Kingaroy SES, presented Kingaroy QCWA president Hazel Gurski with a thank you certificate for the branch’s recent assistance towards the construction of the new SES training tower.<\/p>\n

Birthday wishes were presented on behalf of Kumbia, \u00a0Wondai, Howard, Maidenwell and Proston QCWA branches and Maranoa Division.<\/p>\n

Kumbia president Marian Mudra also brought greetings from the State office.<\/p>\n

Lady Flo Bjelke-Petersen congratulated the Kingaroy Branch for reaching its 90th birthday and said the celebration brought back many happy memories for her of the times she used to travel around the State with her husband Joh when he was Premier and they would attend QCWA functions.<\/p>\n

Wishes were also extended from the Kingaroy Quota Club (Sandra Tincknell), South Burnett Regional Council (Cr Dalton) and South Burnett CTC (Nina Temperton).<\/p>\n

South Burnett CTC currently leases the former QCWA Hostel for use as a youth refuge.<\/p>\n

Guests enjoyed an afternoon tea before taking the opportunity to inspect craft and history displays in the clubhouse building.<\/p>\n
