Cherbourg Junior Police Ranger Kyeisha \u201cKy Ky\u201d Warner was sleeping soundly on a bus when she was awoken by yelling.<\/p>\n

She saw a boy looking ill a few seats up and realised he had fainted.<\/p>\n

Ky Ky knew what to do .. she\u00a0 poured water from her bottle onto a piece of clothing which she used to cool the boy\u2019s head.<\/p>\n

She then sat with him until the bus reached its final destination.<\/p>\n

Cherbourg Police community liaison administration officer Louise Thompson said Ky Ky used the skills she\u2019d learned through a “RESQ ROOOS” first aid course she was doing at the time.<\/p>\n

The course was organised by Louise for\u00a0 18 Cherbourg Junior Police Rangers from St Mary\u2019s Catholic College in Kingaroy and St Joseph\u2019s School in Murgon.<\/p>\n

The Junior Rangers learned from ambulance officers how to ring Triple 0, deal with snake bites, broken bones, basic CPR and, of course, fainting.<\/p>\n

Louise said everyone was proud of Ky Ky and how she handled a situation many older children on the bus had no idea how to cope with.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt shows how the Cherbourg Junior Police Rangers gives real life skills that people can use to build a stronger, better life for themselves and their communities,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Louise said the Junior Police Ranger Program also allowed officers from Cherbourg Police station to build strong relationships with its participants, their families and the wider community.<\/p>\n

Other topics the rangers cover throughout the year include bicycle and road safety, riding on rough terrain and 3D art.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re fun activities that teach children life, social and leadership skills,\u201d Louise said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt builds their self-esteem so they grow into well-rounded adults.\u201d<\/p>\n
