Cultural misunderstandings can hinder communications in the workplace – and upset would-be customers – but South Burnett businesses can take steps to minimise this confusion.<\/p>\n

Employees from Huston Ford, Nissan and Suzuki in Kingaroy and Murgon attended a Cross-Cultural Awareness training session this morning facilitated by Indigenous Employment and Training Support Officer Valerie Mathews<\/strong> from Regional Services Queensland.<\/p>\n

The session, held in Kingaroy, was designed to raise awareness of different communication styles and cultural expectations between indigenous and non-indigenous Australians, especially in the workplace.<\/p>\n

Mark Huston said the training was being conducted as a pilot program. All Huston employees would eventually undertake the course.<\/p>\n

“Awareness of people’s cultural differences will create a more harmonious workplace,” he said.<\/p>\n

Huston’s currently employs two indigenous 2nd Year motor vehicle apprentices.<\/p>\n
