After completing the necessary paperwork in February, Kingaroy Hospital Auxiliary Inc recently received approval for the name requested for Kingaroy Hospital Canteen\u2019s Dining Room.<\/p>\n

On Monday, November 17, the canteen\u2019s Dining Room was officially named the “Dr Julian Mullins M.B.E, O.A.M., B.V.Sc. Dining Room\u201d in honour of the ex-President of Kingaroy Hospital Auxiliary.<\/p>\n

To celebrate the occasion, current Kingaroy Hospital Canteen volunteers were invited to a morning tea with Dr Mullins.<\/p>\n

Auxiliary president Sandra Beetham said that \u201cback in 1991 Dr Mullins was instrumental in re-establishing the Kingaroy Hospital Auxiliary Inc to run a canteen at Kingaroy Hospital in the old Farrhome building”.<\/p>\n

“The canteen provided meals to hospital staff, patients and the general public; and proceeds raised were used to provide furnishings and equipment for Kingaroy Hospital.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dr Mullins served as president of the Kingaroy Hospital Auxiliary until late 2011 when poor health forced him to retire.<\/p>\n

Without his vision, perseverance and dedication, Kingaroy Hospital Auxiliary would never have fundraised gross receipts of $1 million and then contributed $224,000 worth of equipment and amenities to Kingaroy Hospital.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a great achievement for 21 years of volunteer work, without mentioning the
\n1500 odd jars of apple marmalade jam that he cooked to raise funds for the Auxiliary,” Auxiliary treasurer Alison Murray said.<\/p>\n

“Dr Mullins also campaigned tirelessly to get the Renal Unit at Kingaroy Hospital; and together with Pamela Lincoln and a small committee produced two wonderful recipe books which can be purchased at the Kingaroy Hospital Canteen or Kingaroy Tourist Information Centre.”<\/p>\n

Last month, Kingaroy Hospital Auxiliary Inc, together with QCWA Kumbia, donated a $10,500 bladder scanner to Kingaroy Hospital.<\/p>\n

The Auxiliary contributed about $4400 towards the cost of the machine.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018The Auxiliary has donated $7800 for the purchase of two Observation Machines at Kingaroy Hospital and they should arrive shortly,” Alison said.<\/p>\n

“These donations would not be possible without the hard work of our Kingaroy Hospital Canteen volunteers.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Canteen is open Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 2:00pm and monies raised are used to purchase equipment for Kingaroy Hospital and to support services associated with the hospital.<\/p>\n

The Auxiliary\u2019s Canteen Convenor, David Morton, is always keen to hear from those wishing to help in the canteen on (07) 4162-9199.<\/p>\n

The Auxiliary welcomes new members to its Meetings which are held on on the third Thursday of every month at 5:00pm in the Kingaroy Hospital Canteen.<\/p>\n
