Queensland Fire and Emergency Services Commissioner Lee Johnson has publicly thanked the more than 40,000 emergency services volunteers in Queensland.<\/p>\n

Commissioner Johnson wrote to the media ahead of International Volunteer Day on Friday (December 5).<\/p>\n

“To say that we could not deliver emergency response to Queenslanders in the same way without volunteers is no overstatement,” Commissioner Johnson said.<\/p>\n

“As grass fires ravage landscapes, Rural Fire Service Queensland volunteers are leaving their day jobs and families to protect others\u2019 lives and properties.<\/p>\n

“When storms cause damage and flooding in streets, State Emergency Service volunteers are out in force ensuring the safety of communities.<\/p>\n

“Our volunteers take many different forms, from front line roles to those working behind the scenes making sure communities are educated, training is up to scratch, responding crews and units are fed, forms are completed and minutes are taken.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“We even have volunteers in highly specialised areas, in our Scientific Unit for example, bringing expert knowledge to our operations.<\/p>\n

“I want to extend my sincere thanks to the more than 40,000 volunteers across all of our divisions. Your commitment, dedication and unreserved willingness to sacrifice your time and effort for your communities is sincerely appreciated.”<\/p>\n

Commissioner Johnson encouraged Queenslanders to show their appreciation for volunteers by sharing a message on the QFES Facebook page<\/a><\/strong> or by a Twitter message (@QldFES).<\/p>\n
