South Burnett Regional Council has released concept plans for the new Murgon Aquatic Centre.<\/p>\n

Construction of the facility, on the corner of Gore Street and Dutton Street East, will begin in the New Year.<\/p>\n

\u201cCouncil have been working with the community and as a result of extensive consultation with the major users of the Murgon pool, we will be delivering a facility that will meet the future needs of the community and at the same time provide a facility our community can be proud of,\u201d mayor Wayne Kratzmann said.<\/p>\n

The new facility will offer modern amenities and change rooms, including outdoor showers.<\/p>\n

There will be a special kiosk which will allow clear viewing of all the pools and outdoor areas, and a \u00a0dedicated first aid room.<\/p>\n

It’s planned that the main 50m swimming pool will also get a facelift by building the area around the pool to the same level as the pool edging.<\/p>\n

For this part of the project, Council has applied for a \u201cGet Playing Plus Grant\u201d to assist with the construction cost.<\/p>\n

Council says the building will be low maintenance, highly durable and made from environmentally safe materials.<\/p>\n

New lighting will be primarily LED lights. There will be a solar hot water system for hot showers as well as solar security lighting throughout the landscaped areas.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe aquatic centre is an excellent project for the Murgon community. Improvements to the pool will provide a safe and fun environment for children to learn to swim,\u201d \u00a0Property \/ Facilities portfolio chair Cr Deb Palmer said.<\/p>\n

Council is currently working with engineers at the design stage to prepare the construction documentation and will be calling for tenders early next year.<\/p>\n

The master concept plan is available for viewing at the Murgon South Burnett Regional Council office\/library, the Murgon Visitor Information Centre and the Murgon PCYC.<\/p>\n
