A new set of stairs might not sound like much but it is definitely a “big step” for the Yarraman Historical Society and Heritage House.<\/p>\n

The old convent building in Yarraman houses an incredible amount of Yarraman’s history – both upstairs and downstairs – as well as the studios to Wild Horse FM so it’s important that access for the public is easy.<\/p>\n

The building was erected in 1945.<\/p>\n

“That makes the steps we just lost 69 years old … and I know how they feel as today is my birthday and I am 69 years old, too,”\u00a0Yarraman Historical Society president Helene Johnson joked.<\/p>\n

She said for the past few years, volunteers have been “patching” and “banging together” the old stairs but it all came to a head when someone put their foot through the landing.<\/p>\n

“It was getting to a stage where were going to shut down the stairs. Then we applied to Bendigo Bank and Stanwell,” Helene said.<\/p>\n

The new stairs were officially opened by representatives from the two corporations today.<\/p>\n

After some short speeches, a ribbon cutting and a sausage sizzle, the invited guests made their way to the museum to inspect some of the thousands of items on display.<\/p>\n
