The risk of bushfires remains high despite an expected drop in temperatures this week, firefighters warn, and residents need to stay vigiliant<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The risk of bushfires across the region is likely to remain high despite an expected drop in temperatures later this week.<\/p>\n

Firefighters are appealing to local residents to take special care with power tools such as grinders and welders during the current hot and dry conditions.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven leaving vehicles running in dry grassy areas poses a risk, so please consider possible consequences of your activities at this time,\u201d QFES inspector Jeff Keating said today.<\/p>\n

Insp Keating is the incident controller based at Kingaroy.<\/p>\n

He said the Strike Teams currently based in Kingaroy and Gayndah have assisted local volunteer Rural Fire Brigades and urban firefighters to contain a number of fires over the past few days, preventing them from escalating to major incidents.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith severe fire danger in the region today, it is vital that residents take extra care and remain vigilant to prevent bushfire,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Local fire bans have been imposed in the North and South Burnett, Cherbourg, Gympie Fraser Coast and Bundaberg local government areas and all permits to light fires have been cancelled in these areas.<\/p>\n

UPDATE 2:15pm: \u00a0Firefighters are currently\u00a0at a grass fire burning near Booubyjan Road, Booubyjan. A QFES spokesman said the \u00a0fire broke out around 1.30pm and was posing no threat to property<\/strong><\/p>\n
