A last-ditch push to keep the Wondai Army Cadet Unit open has proven successful … it will be “business as usual” next year,\u00a0\u00a0officer-in-charge Captain (AAC) Peter Schneidewin confirmed today.<\/p>\n

More than 30 local residents attended an emergency meeting held last Sunday in a bid to keep the unit from being mothballed.<\/p>\n

A number of adults volunteered at the meeting to fill key positions at the unit.<\/p>\n

Capt (AAC) Schneidewin said volunteers had stepped forward to fill the key command, training, administration and logistics roles.<\/p>\n

The good news came through on Tuesday evening that Headquarters had approved a submission that 135ACU, which parades at the Army Reserve Base in Wondai, should remain open.<\/p>\n

However, the volunteers will still require training which means that Capt (AAC) \u00a0Schneidewin and Sergeant Andrew Sampson, from the Army Reserve, would continue to assist at the unit for another 12 months.<\/p>\n

“We have committed to another 12 months to get the people through training and up to speed,” Capt \u00a0(AAC) \u00a0Schneidewin said.<\/p>\n

The Wondai cadets will be taking part in a “depot camp” on November 22-23.<\/p>\n

Their next major public event will be Australia Day in 2015.<\/p>\n
