We apologise … there may be a few hiccups on South Burnett Online websites over the next 24 hours because of a significant upgrade in our technology.<\/p>\n

southburnett.com.au<\/strong> is based in Kingaroy but our websites are physically located at a data centre in Sydney.<\/p>\n

Tonight, we will be moving them to a new, bigger centre.<\/p>\n

This will help to accommodate the 250 per cent growth we’ve seen in our traffic over the past 30 months.<\/p>\n

Our new data centre offers state-of-the-art facilities and is one of the most secure sites in Australia.<\/p>\n

It also uses green energy technologies to reduce its carbon footprint.<\/p>\n

Our servers will shift over to the new data centre between 9:00pm tonight (November 9) and the early hours of Monday morning to minimise inconvenience to our readers as much as possible.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The move will mean our IP numbers will change.<\/p>\n

While this should have little effect on the majority of local readers, regular readers on holidays overseas may experience difficulty accessing our sites for the next 24 hours while our IP number change is propagated around the planet.<\/p>\n

We may also not receive comments from readers who entered them on articles late on Sunday night while the changeover is in effect.<\/p>\n

Emails, events listings, business directory changes etc sent to South Burnett Online could go missing, but will most likely just be delayed.<\/p>\n

We will also be forced to postpone our normal Monday edition until the bulk of the changeover has been effected.<\/p>\n

Once bedded down, the change will allow our readers to continue to enjoy our sites at the same (or even slightly better) speeds than they currently do, despite skyrocketing growth in readership, page views and bandwidth consumption.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In October, southburnett.com.au<\/strong> received more than 187,200 visitors who looked at 878,185 pages of news and information on our website and used almost 74Gb of bandwidth.<\/p>\n

“This high volume of data transfer requires us to use the most advanced web server technologies available,” southburnett.com.au<\/strong> CEO Dafyd Martindale said.<\/p>\n

“We’re a 100 per cent locally owned South Burnett media business, so we’re happy to do this.”<\/p>\n
