The Maryknoll Centre in Kingaroy was packed with proud parents and friends for St Mary’s Catholic College’s recent awards night.<\/p>\n

Certificates and trophies were presented to students from Prep through to Year 12.<\/p>\n

The South Burnett Regional Council Award for Dux of the College was presented to Year 12 student Thilini Ranasinghe who also excelled in Biology, Maths, Physics and English.<\/p>\n

Principal Michael Nayler congratulated students for living up to the Benedictine value of ‘Be Your Best”.<\/p>\n

Thomas Carney was presented with the shield for the prestigious College Christian Living Award.<\/p>\n

Guest speaker was Kingaroy \/ Nanango parish priest Fr Nigel Sequeira who spoke about growing up in Kuwait and how suddenly his life changed overnight in August 1990 with the Iraqi invasion.<\/p>\n

“We were just happy to have our lives and each other, the clothes, the new TV meant nothing,” he said.<\/p>\n

“My mother told me: ‘We have God, we have each other and you have a good education. We will be all right’.”<\/p>\n

Pointing to the school motto of “Realise Your Dignity”, Fr Nigel told the departing Year 12 students: “In realising your dignity, you will realise the dignity in others; in realising the dignity in others, you will realise the dignity in yourself.”<\/p>\n

“My gift to you is the words my mother gave me: ‘You have God, you have each other and you have a good education. You will be all right’.”<\/p>\n
