It\u2019s been hot lately, hasn&#8217;t it? So hot, in fact, that Nanango had to call their Men\u2019s Trophy day off on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Attendances were down quite a bit for mid-week play, too.<\/p>\n<p>But there&#8217;s a big weekend coming up in Triples, with Nanango playing Yarraman today; and President\u2019s Day at both Binjour and Yarraman tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p>I hope to have all the results for you next Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, here&#8217;s what else has been happening around the region in bowls this week:<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3><strong>Burnett District news<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>The Binjour ladies flew the flag quite proudly in the State Champion of Champions (Ladies Fours) at Toombul last week. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Eight Queensland Zones were represented, and the eight were divided into two sections.<\/p>\n<p>The winners of each section played out each other in the final.<\/p>\n<p>And what a final it was, with Yeppoon (Central Queensland Zone) defeating Ferny Grove (Brisbane Zone) 21-20.<\/p>\n<p>The Burnett District was represented by Binjour, who played in Section two.<\/p>\n<p>They came second in that section and fourth overall in the championship. Here are the results:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Binjour 20 defeated Kallangur 16<\/li>\n<li>Ferny Grove 31 defeated Binjour 6<\/li>\n<li>Binjour 23 defeated Marlin Coast 15<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Final standing for the six not in the final: Wins + Margins<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Broadbeach (Gold Coast) 4 pts &#8211; (12)<\/li>\n<li>Binjour (Burnett) 4 pts &#8211; (3)<\/li>\n<li>Marlin Coast (Tropical Far Nth) 2 pts &#8211; (8)<\/li>\n<li>Emerald (Leichhardt) 2 pts &#8211; (-13)<\/li>\n<li>Nth Toowoomba (Downs) 2 pts &#8211; (-32)<\/li>\n<li>Kallangur (Brisbane Nth) 0 pts &#8211; (-57)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_86575\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-86575\" style=\"width: 740px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/20141101bowls2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-86575\" title=\"20141101 Kerry Knowles, Lorri Holmes and Brian Profke\" src=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/20141101bowls2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"740\" height=\"460\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/20141101bowls2.jpg 620w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/20141101bowls2-300x186.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 740px) 100vw, 740px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-86575\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kerry Knowles skipped the winning team in this year&#8217;s Dudley Brown-Ashley Emmert Memorial Shield; team mate Lorri Holmes had the honour of holding the trophy when last year\u2019s winner Brian Profke presented the shield to the winners<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3><strong>Yarraman news<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>One of the highlights of the Yarraman calendar is the annual Dudley Brown-Ashley Emmert Memorial Shield Day. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Held each year in late October, it gives players the opportunity to remember the enormous contribution that two bowlers gave to the bowls community.<\/p>\n<p>Dudley Brown played an active part on the club\u2019s management committee and was Club President when he passed away.<\/p>\n<p>He lived at Blackbutt, played regularly at Yarraman and travelled extensively in his role as club president.<\/p>\n<p>Many Blackbutt bowlers played in the tournament and later reflected on Dudley Brown&#8217;s life.<\/p>\n<p>The Shield also reflects the enormous effect that Ashley Emmert had on the lives of the young men of those times.<\/p>\n<p>Many old school pals sat around the green chatting and later enjoying a barbecue tea.<\/p>\n<p>One of the many with photos and mementos of the good old days was last year\u2019s Shield winner Brian Profke, who recalled the closeness the two friends had.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They were inseparable &#8230; they were like brothers&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>This year the Shield was won by a team skipped by club Treasurer Kerry Knowles.<\/p>\n<p>It comprised Sandra Currell, Toss Currell, Lorri Holmes and Kerry Knowles.<\/p>\n<p>The competition was decided on points, not scores, and they won both of their rounds.<\/p>\n<p>In Round 1 they defeated Daphne Stewart\u2019s team 23-6. Phillips\u2019 Team &#8211; 5l + 33<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Scroungers last Friday week was a bottler, with Ben Pratap and Lew Saunders tied on 105.<\/p>\n<p>But the Men\u2019s Social on Tuesday was called off due to the sweltering heatwave.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, conditions were a little better for the Ladies Trophy Day, which was Three Bowl Pairs.<\/p>\n<p>There were a couple of real nail biters here: Muriel Benfield and Glen Yeates drew with Sylvia Fanning and Lew Saunders 21-all. while Julie Saunders and Sue Tucker defeated Lynn Halliday and Athol Jensen 19-16.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3><strong>Kingaroy news<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Normally there&#8217;s a lot of activity at Kingaroy, but quite a number of players were away during the week supporting other tournaments and carnivals in the Burnett District.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On Thursday of last week, in Pairs and Triples:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Peter Neilsen and Hugh Harrison def.
