The completion of one of the biggest flood restoration works on South Burnett roads passed by earlier this year with little fanfare.<\/p>\n

The old wooden Moloneys Bridge on Hodges Dip Road at Chahpingah was washed off its foundations and left lying downstream during the January 2013 floods.<\/p>\n

The cost of the replacement bridge was approximately $1 million.<\/p>\n

Tenders for construction of a concrete bridge closed in November 2013 and work began soon afterwards.<\/p>\n

The new bridge has been designed to withstand future floods with the piles drilled two metres into granite to protect it from lifting.<\/p>\n

Moloneys Bridge re-opened to traffic on June 6.<\/p>\n

The bridge was funded under Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA), a joint funding initiative of the Federal and State Governments.<\/p>\n
