A $500,000 revamp to Cherbourg\u2019s Gundoo Day Care Centre will lead to better learning for its children.<\/p>\n

New offices, paint work, toilets, play equipment, air conditioning and other features have boosted morale.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was getting a bit run down,\u201d director Jacqui Tapau said.<\/p>\n

Staff even have new shirts with a pattern designed by local artist Barbara Stewart and further equipment and learning resources will be bought.<\/p>\n

There is also a host of learning and play activities to help children with their future learning, self-esteem and social skills.<\/p>\n

The Wakka Wakka language is being taught to the children by Aunty Vanessa Fisher.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re teaching them to grow to be proud of being Indigenous or Torres Strait Islander,\u201d Jacqui said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re giving them the skills to build upon so they can have a happy life.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt Gundoo we stimulate the children in all areas of their development.<\/p>\n

\u201cChildren love to learn and we provide a fun atmosphere for them to do so.\u201d<\/p>\n

Many people believe children who go to day care from a young age cope with better with school and later life.<\/p>\n

Jacqui said she would like to give any parents a tour of the centre should they be thinking of day care as an option for their children.<\/p>\n
