The Rural Fire Service Queensland is urging residents to be vigilant, with heightened fire conditions predicted while the hot and dry weather continues.<\/p>\n

RFSQ Assistant Commissioner Neil Gallant said precautions were being taken by firefighters to prepare for potential vegetation fires during the heightened fire conditions.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith severe or very high fire danger across the majority of the state, warm temperatures combined with low humidity and strong winds make conditions perfect for fires to spark and spread quickly,” he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese conditions also make it difficult to contain vegetation fires, so we\u2019re asking residents to take extra care and be alert.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Gallant said landowners who had conducted hazard reduction burns recently were strongly encouraged to take immediate steps to ensure their fire had been properly extinguished.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are also asking people to ensure they do not throw cigarette butts out of the car window and be careful when operating machinery in grassed areas,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

In the South Burnett, firefighters from three brigades last night attended a large grass burning in inaccessible country south-east of Nanango. The fire is not posing a risk to property,<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rural firefighters also attended a small grass fire at Ellesmere.<\/p>\n
