The South Burnett Thrashers have hung up their boots for the season following their loss in the last round of the Downs Rugby Union competition on Saturday. But Club President Shane O’Malley is already looking forward to next year’s competition.<\/p>\n

Shane told southburnett.com.au<\/strong> that the 2012 season was always going to be an interesting one for the club following a lot of changes at the end of 2011 – in players, coaching staff and committee members.<\/p>\n

“We started slowly with a lot of away trips,” Shane said.<\/p>\n

“A lot of our older, more experienced players moved out of the area or retired at the end of last year. We had a lot of young guys in the club and it took a while for the side to gel, but we were really coming good in the end.<\/p>\n

“Then we lost people through injury, especially in the backline during the last month just as the team hit its peak.”<\/p>\n

Shane said the attitude of the players was “really top notch” despite only recording the one win.<\/p>\n

“They’re looking forward to next year and already talking about it. They haven’t had enough!” he said.<\/p>\n

The Thrashers lost their last game of the season, played against Roma at St Mary’s Oval in Kingaroy, 36-19.<\/p>\n

A good crowd – easily their best home crowd of the season – turned out to watch the boys play, and they enjoyed some tough, competitive rugby although the local side was beaten.<\/p>\n

Tries for the Thrashers were scored by Mitch Cush, Mick Ferling and Joel Wolski. \u00a0Steve Harrington and Toby Broomhall kicked conversions.<\/p>\n
