Local councils should start breathing a little easier with the release today of the funding amounts they will receive from the Federal Government’s Roads To Recovery program.<\/p>\n

The figures released for each council include the 2014-15 amount as well as the total they will receive from 2014 to 2019.<\/p>\n

The program has been unfunded since the last round expired in June due to political bickering in the Senate.<\/p>\n

The last-minute passage of the\u00a0Land Transport Infrastructure Amendment Bill 2014 last month finally gave the green light to\u00a0the $2.1 billion scheme.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is a disgrace that political games played by Labor and The Greens have delayed the passing of this legislation for five months,” Member for Flynn Ken O’Dowd said.<\/p>\n

Roads to Recovery funding provides support to councils with the ongoing maintenance of local road infrastructure.<\/p>\n

Councils can make road spending decisions based on local needs.<\/p>\n

The Australian Local Government Association has called for the funding to be made permanent to avoid this scenario happening again.<\/p>\n

Local councils can lodge their applications in October, which will allow payments to be made in November.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
