A $20 million upgrade to Kingaroy’s ageing Wastewater Treatment Plant was given the go-ahead today when Council accepted a tender on the project from Aquatec Maxcon Pty Ltd<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The South Burnett Regional Council gave the formal go-ahead for construction of Kingaroy’s new Wastewater Treatment Plant today when it awarded a tender for $16,027,629 to Aquatec Maxcon Pty Ltd, along with agreed additional capital items.<\/p>\n

The final bill for the project is expected to be around $20 million.<\/p>\n

Mayor Wayne Kratzmann noted the project was the largest ever undertaken by the Council, equivalent to almost 40 per cent of the Council’s annual budget.<\/p>\n

Half of the total amount will be paid for by the State Government, thanks to a Royalties For Regions grant announced by Deputy Premier Jeff Seeney in March this year.<\/p>\n

The other half will be paid by South Burnett ratepayers through a long-term, low interest loan from Treasury.<\/p>\n

The Council also accepted a second tender from Aquatec Maxcon for $7,535,265 plus agreed additional capital items for the upgrade of the Gordonbrook Water Treatment Plant.<\/p>\n

Council also awarded a tender of $1,034,067 to Doval Constructions (Qld) Pty Ltd for the River Road Sewer Main Replacement, a flood restoration project.<\/p>\n

This will be paid for from a $1.4 million betterment grant awarded to the Council by the State Government last November.<\/p>\n

And a fourth tender for $1,491,024 was awarded to SRS Roads Pty Ltd for the supply of goods and services for this year’s road resealing program.<\/p>\n

The four tenders were awarded in a closed session at today’s monthly Council meeting.<\/p>\n

Closed sessions are a normal procedure when tenders are awarded, since the details of all tender offers are regarded as “commercial in confidence”.<\/p>\n

Only details of winning tenders are announced.<\/p>\n
