Friday was a big day for the QCWA with lively and colourful events in Murgon and Maidenwell keeping members busy.<\/p>\n

In Murgon, the Gympie South Burnett Division held its annual Handcraft Display at the QCWA building in Murgon.<\/p>\n

Craft items from clubs throughout the Division were on display after undergoing judging on Thursday.<\/p>\n

As well as embroidery and darning, there were lots of more obscure crafts on show including huckaback, hardanger, chicken scratch. candlewicking, silk ribbon embroidery and jacobean needlework.<\/p>\n

The craft show was officially opened by South Burnett councillor Kathy Duff.<\/p>\n

“It is a fantastic display and it represents so many hours of work,” she said.<\/p>\n

“It is just mind-boggling what you do. We need to get more young people involved so we don’t lose these crafts.”<\/p>\n

International Day at Maidenwell<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The pupil-powered dragon danced amongst the other students on stage<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

At Maidenwell, students from Tanduringie State School were getting into the spirit of International Day with the Maidenwell QCWA Club.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The students adopted the club’s country for 2014, Vietnam, to present a musical exploration of Vietnamese food, culture and history live on stage at Maidenwell Hall.<\/p>\n

QCWA members and proud parents watched as the students sung and performed on stage.<\/p>\n

There was also a display of the children’s entries in the QCWA International Day competition.<\/p>\n
