Kingaroy State High School student Amy Harch was named Quota International’s Student of The Year at the District finals held in Murgon on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Amy competed against finalists from Gin Gin, Maroochydore, Gympie, Maryborough, Nambour and Murgon to take the title.<\/p>\n

She has won a $2000 bursary to use in her tertiary studies.<\/p>\n

Each of the finalists had won local competitions organised by Quota clubs throughout District 34.<\/p>\n

Also included amongst the seven competitors was Sarah Jensen, who won the Murgon Quota Club’s local competition.<\/p>\n

Three independent judges, Cr Kathy Duff (South Burnett Regional Council), school chaplain Victor Chapman, and Judy Mickan, got to know the students over a day of\u00a0quizzes and questions.<\/p>\n

The students were judged on leadership and citizenship, personality, social graces and appearance, general knowledge, cultural knowledge, sporting interests and current affairs.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In the evening, the students competed in a public speaking competition over dinner at the Murgon RSL Club, testing their skills in\u00a0prepared speeches and impromptu speaking.<\/p>\n

Amy’s prepared speech was titled: “We Only Think We Know What We Think”.<\/p>\n

Sarah tackled: “100 Hours Is Too Many”.<\/p>\n

The topic that all students had to tackle in the impromptu speech competition was: “Is technology assisting or preventing practical living?”<\/p>\n

The Quota International Club of Murgon hosted the District Final after Gladstone club was forced to withdraw because of the lack of accommodation available in the town.<\/p>\n
