Past students and teachers of Abbeywood State School will be getting back together on Saturday at Proston to mark the centenary of the opening of the school.<\/p>\n

The school was built in 1914 and officially closed on April 24, 1972, but it has never been forgotten by the hundreds of students who passed through its doors.<\/p>\n

Albert Jones, one of the organisers of the reunion, said the school building still stands but is now a private residence.<\/p>\n

He said the owners were very supportive of the celebration and would be allowing visitors to visit the property during the day.<\/p>\n

The main centenary celebrations will be held at the Proston Community Hall with bus trips out to the school.<\/p>\n

Morning and afternoon tea, and lunch, will be available at the hall – but for catering purposes, an RSVP has been requested.<\/p>\n

There will also be an invitation-only dinner for past students and teachers.<\/p>\n

Albert said 133 people had so far booked in for lunch and 86 had been confirmed for the invitation-only dinner.<\/p>\n

“Although we have endeavoured to contact as many past students and teachers as we could find, we will have missed some,” Albert said.<\/p>\n

“So if you have attended the school and have not received an invitation, but would like one, please contact us.”<\/p>\n
