Taabinga State School is trialling a new way to support children who will be starting Prep next year.<\/p>\n

This year all local child care centres and kindergartens received a flyer with the dates and the concepts that will be covered as the children visit.<\/p>\n

On the first day, ‘Sensational Story Time”, the new recruits for 2015 listened to teacher Linda Watt read stories out of her story chest and were invited to create their own jellyfish and demonstrate their cutting and pasting skills.<\/p>\n

The second day covered “Great Gross Motor Skills” where the children showed how well they could bounce, kick and throw balls and climb over the obstacle course in small groups.<\/p>\n

Deputy principal David Lawton, who came dressed as Batman as part of a Book Week day, gave each child a small bean bag so they could go home and practice their balancing and catching skills.<\/p>\n

The South Burnett Child Care Centre and the Kingaroy Early Learning centre took their Prep children who are enrolling at Taabinga next year and are encouraging all families to attend as many orientations sessions as possible to best prepare their children for school.<\/p>\n

All local child care centres and kindergartens support Taabinga State School building relationships with children to support their transition to school.<\/p>\n
