\nFederal Member for Flynn Ken O’Dowd has warned elderly residents in the Wondai area to beware of roofing scams.<\/p>\n

He said residents should be particularly vigilant about door-to door “handymen” offering roof painting services for cash.<\/p>\n

Mr O’Dowd said that over the past couple of months, his office and police had received a number of complaints of fly-by-night operators doing shoddy roofing work.<\/p>\n

“These door-to-door scammers leave victims out of pocket with little if anything to show for it. Their money-back guarantees will turn out to be useless,” Mr O’Dowd said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe best advice is to use local registered tradesmen.<\/p>\n

“If you are unsure about an offer or trader, you should contact your local Office of Fair Trading or Wondai Police Station.”<\/p>\n

He said residents should also visit the Federal Government\u2019s SCAMwatch website<\/a><\/strong> for information on scams and how to protect yourself.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
