A blast from the South Burnett’s musical past has taken shape with the reformation of the South Burnett Youth Concert Band for a special one-off performance later this year.<\/p>\n

Regional instrumental music teacher Jane Iszlaub called for students from across local schools to form a concert band to perform at TYME (Today’s Youth In Music Education) at the University of Southern Queensland in Toowoomba on September 18.<\/p>\n

More than 40 students from Murgon and Kingaroy State Schools; Murgon, Kingaroy and Nanango State High Schools; Wondai P-9 plus home school students answered the call.<\/p>\n

The South Burnett Youth Concert Band consists of woodwind, brass and percussion players.<\/p>\n

Jane has been working with the Year 5-12 students at their individual schools, plus they have three group practices planned before a dress rehearsal and the big day.<\/p>\n

The second of the group practices was held on Sunday at the Kingaroy State High School performing arts centre.<\/p>\n

Jane said the South Burnett Youth Concert Band was originally formed by legendary local music teacher, the late Laurie Case.<\/p>\n

“It was really strong during the 1980s and even toured interstate,” Jane said.<\/p>\n

Jane, herself, is a former member “but the furthest I got was Expo 88!”.<\/p>\n

Pursers Coaches are helping to sponsor the Concert Band by subsidising part of the transport costs for the young musicians.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
