The trial of a Wattle Camp woman charged with attempting to kill her husband with a hammer began in the Brisbane Supreme Court on Monday.<\/p>\n

Kay Te Atarangi Lyons, 55, has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder; an attempt by Lyons to plead guilty to a lesser charge was rejected by the Crown.<\/p>\n

Her husband David, then aged 67, suffered a fractured skull in the incident in June 2013, and was flown to the PA Hospital in a serious condition.<\/p>\n

The couple had been married for 37 years.<\/p>\n

The Crown has alleged the hammer attack occurred after Lyons’ husband discovered she had “maxed out” a credit card.<\/p>\n

The court was told Lyons had previously racked up credit card debts through gambling.<\/p>\n

Mr Lyons said he was struck “four or five times” with the hammer.<\/p>\n

The trial, before Chief Justice Tim Carmody, is listed to run for four days.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
