Former Kingaroy Shire mayor – and now Deputy PM – Warren Truss has been honoured by having the council meeting chamber in Kingaroy named after him.<\/p>\n

Mr Truss has spent many hours in the room, albeit in its old form before the 2010-11 renovations.<\/p>\n

He was elected to the Kingaroy Shire Council in 1976 and became Shire Chairman (the then-title for mayor) in 1983, a position he held until he was elected to Federal Parliament in 1990.<\/p>\n

Members of Mr Truss’ family, former councillors and council staff, and current councillors gathered in the Chamber on Wednesday morning for the official unveiling of a name plaque.<\/p>\n

South Burnett mayor Wayne Kratzmann said it had been Cr Damien Tessmann’s idea to name the Chamber after Mr Truss.<\/p>\n

It was then put to a Council meeting.<\/p>\n

“There was no debate. It was a unanimous decision,” Mayor Kratzmann said.<\/p>\n
