In the early hours of Sunday morning, Kingaroy SES attended a request for assistance in Kingaroy to a house which had water entering following a heavy downpour during the night.<\/p>\n

Luckily, no significant damage was identified and only a small amount of water had entered the premises.<\/p>\n

It did emphasise, however, the need for all residents to prepare for rains and storms.<\/p>\n

How prepared are you?<\/p>\n

One simple step to being prepared is to clean out your gutters regularly.<\/p>\n

Do this on a nice sunny day, and make it regular event, perhaps four times a year. You may need to do this more frequently if there are trees nearby your house.<\/p>\n

Remember to wear gloves when cleaning gutters, and always take special care when using ladders.<\/p>\n

You may also need to carefully trim tree branches close to the house to reduce the amount of leaves entering your gutters.<\/p>\n

These simple steps will prepare your house for heavy rains which may occur without much forewarning.<\/p>\n

Being prepared also helps emergency services by freeing them up to respond to other calls for assistance.<\/p>\n
