Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington has thrown her weight behind a push to extend the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail through the “missing link” in the Somerset Regional Council area.<\/p>\n

Mrs Frecklington said she had pressed Deputy Premier Jeff Seeney for funding for the Somerset section.<\/p>\n

Mr Seeney recently announced that $2 million would be released from the Royalties For Regions program to establish a rail trail between Kilkivan and Kingaroy.<\/p>\n

Mrs Frecklington said she was delighted with the assistance to the South Burnett Regional Council.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have already spoken to the Deputy Premier at length about the needs of the Somerset section of the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail and I\u2019ll continue to press for funding,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur government knows that turning former rail corridors into recreation areas will be a huge part of the success in growing the tourism pillar of the Queensland economy in regional areas.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mrs Frecklington said the government had set aside $3.5 million over the next four years for a new Recreational Rail Trails Grants program which would be open to Councils to help them maintain and upgrade sections of their rail trails.<\/p>\n

“So, the funding I am requesting will be on top of this program,” she said.<\/p>\n

Riders plan to travel along the Yarraman and Linville section of the Brisbane Valley rail trail from 10:00am on Saturday, August 16, as part of a push to extend the trail.<\/p>\n
