The damaged steam turbine unit at Tarong North Power Station is expected to come back into service in either late September or early October after temporary repairs.<\/p>\n

A Stanwell spokesman said today the unit would then operate at a lower capacity until a new rotor and new turbine components were installed at the next scheduled major overhaul.<\/p>\n

It would take about 18 months for these parts to be delivered.<\/p>\n

The Tarong North unit developed a “shudder” on May 29, ie \u00a0short-term increases in bearing vibration.<\/p>\n

The unit was taken out of service on June 16 and a detailed inspection found damage to the rotor and turbine components.<\/p>\n

The damaged components have now been sent to Maitland in NSW for repairs before being reinstalled.<\/p>\n

The unit has a maximum output of 443MW but will return to service with a reduced maximum capacity of about 380MW.<\/p>\n

The spokesman said the successful return of Unit 4 at Tarong Power Station on July 23 had compensated for the temporary suspension of Tarong North from service.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
