Sisters Martina and Sophie Jacobs were recognised at Cherbourg\u2019s NAIDOC Week celebrations for their work educating children at Cherbourg State School, and will be farewelled on August 8<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Martina and Sophie Jacobs will leave Cherbourg State School on Friday, August 8 with a legacy of achievement.<\/p>\n

They have provided almost 74 years of service at the school between them, as a teacher and teacher aide respectively.<\/p>\n

The two sisters were the inaugural teachers of the school\u2019s Cultural Education Centre which began three years ago.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s believed to be the first such centre in a Queensland school.<\/p>\n

Principal Peter Sansby said Martina and Sophie were given free reign to run it with their knowledge of local, State and federal issues.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019ll be remembered as amazing role models; an inspiration to the community,\u201d Peter said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey were trail blazers in the education field and hopefully their legacy of the cultural education programme will continue well into the future.\u201d<\/p>\n

The sisters will now have their service acknowledged with a special presentation at the school’s NAIDOC celebrations.<\/p>\n

The school will host Murgon State School students on August 8, and each class will host an activity.<\/p>\n

The celebration will run from 10:00am to 2:00pm, with a barbecue lunch provided, and everybody is welcome.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur aim is to make this a great last day for Martina and Sophie, but we hope they\u2019ll continue to drop in from time to time,\u201d Peter said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
