The 2012 XXXX Gold Variety Bash starts in Dalby and winds its way throughout outback Queensland to Mackay<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

If you see some odd-looking vehicles in the South Burnett this week don’t panic … the 2012 XXXX Gold Variety Bash will be passing through the region.<\/p>\n

The 23rd Bash – which raises funds for “Variety – the Children’s Charity” – kicks off in Dalby on Thursday.<\/p>\n

The crews will pass through the South Burnett before spending their first night at the Kilkivan Bush Camping Park on Rossmore Road, Kilkivan.<\/p>\n

Along the way they’ll be having lunch at Proston State School and stopping off at the Hivesville Hotel.<\/p>\n

On Day 2, they’ll be paying a visit to Kilkivan State School before heading off on their way to Mackay via Roma, Tambo, Clermont and Yeppoon.<\/p>\n

The “Bashers” will visit 12 schools during their 10 days on the road, dropping off equipment to each.<\/p>\n

Last year Variety provided equipment and services valued at more than $2.7 million to children in need.<\/p>\n

Every team competing in this year’s Bash must raise a minimum of $8000 to take part, although many raise well above this minimum. All vehicles must be 30 years old, or older.<\/p>\n

The Variety Bash started in 1985 when adventurer and businessman Dick Smith took a group of intrepid motorists from Bourke to Burketown in their old cars, raising money for charity along the way.<\/p>\n

This year’s Bash will finish in \u00a0Mackay on August 11.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
