July 30, 2012<\/strong><\/p>\n

Murgon’s Quota International club will be hosting the District finals of the organisation’s Student of the Year competition on Saturday (August 4).<\/p>\n

Students from throughout Quota District 34 – Bundaberg, Caloundra, Coolum Beach, Gympie, Kingaroy, Maleny, Maryborough, Murgon and Nambour – will gather in Murgon to compete for a $2000 bursary.<\/p>\n

The students have all won their own local club’s competition.<\/p>\n

Preliminary judging will be held at Murgon State High School before the final Public Speaking competition and dinner at Murgon RSL.<\/p>\n

Two South Burnett students will be competing in the event:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Kingaroy State High School Year 12 Student Amy Harch<\/strong>, who was recently named Kingaroy club’s Student of the Year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
      \n
    • Murgon State School captain Sarah Jensen<\/strong>, who won the Murgon club’s competition.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      The students were interviewed on leadership and citizenship roles, current affairs, sportsmanship and cultural knowledge by independent judges before being assessed on prepared and impromptu speeches.<\/p>\n

      Kingaroy judges were music teacher Claire Nicholls, former Deputy Principal Ilma\u00a0O’Farrell and Bernie Pegrem, a Toastmaster of 22 years’ experience.\u00a0Murgon judges were Marilyn Huddlestone, Wayne Castle and Anthony Baldwin.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
