Kingaroy Lions Club member Marj Argue is making a “spectacular” effort to help people all over the world improve their vision.<\/p>\n

Twelve months ago Marj took on a special project in Kingaroy to organise the collection of used spectacles for the “Lions Recycle For Sight” scheme.<\/p>\n

So far she has collected an amazing 1950 used pairs of glasses.<\/p>\n

Marj said South Burnett residents can drop off their used or unwanted glasses at Blooms The Chemist, Pharmacy Essentials, Fitzpatrick Family Optometrist or Malcolm Lee See Optometrist.<\/p>\n

Kingaroy State High School students are also collecting glasses for Marj.<\/p>\n

She said it was amazing how many people had an old pair of glasses just lying around in a drawer.<\/p>\n

With just a little bit of effort these could provide the gift of sight to someone overseas.<\/p>\n

Marj packages up the donated glasses and despatches them to a Lions depot in Clontarf in Brisbane where they are cleaned and tested.<\/p>\n

The used lenses are graded in lensometer machines and then forwarded to Lions Clubs and humanitarian groups all over the world for distribution.<\/p>\n

Last year Australians donated an amazing half a million pairs of glasses to people in Africa, India, Sri Lanka, the Phillipines, Thailand, Moldova, Vanuatu, Papua, Solomon Islands, Fiji, East Timor and the Pacific Rim.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
