Member for Maranoa Bruce Scott says eight NBN fixed wireless sites in the South Burnett area are now ready for service.<\/p>\n

Sites which have been switched on are Blackbutt surrounds, Booie East surrounds, Ellesmere, Kingaroy surrounds, Kumbia, Taabinga, Maidenwell, and Yarraman surrounds (see map).<\/p>\n

Fixed wireless broadband is similar to a fixed-line broadband service except the data is delivered through the air instead of via an optic fibre cable.<\/p>\n

Fixed wireless broadband provides a connection from a radio base station to an antenna, which is typically attached to the outside of a home or business.<\/p>\n

NBN Co says fixed wireless networks \u2014 unlike mobile phone networks \u2014 are engineered to meet the speed and service requirements for a specific number of users in the coverage area.<\/p>\n

This means the bandwidth available for each fixed wireless customer is more consistent and stable than for mobile network customers, even during peak times.<\/p>\n

To check if your home or business is positioned in a fixed wireless area, NBN Co have produced an online tool<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

If the address checks out, NBN Co will conduct a radio signal survey to make sure the address can receive a high quality broadband service via fixed wireless.<\/p>\n

It will then be up to the home owner or business owner to contact a preferred phone company or internet service provider to order services.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe rollout\u2019s happening faster than ever since the Coalition Government took office and trials have started to test other technologies which will dramatically lower the cost and time it will take to deliver fast broadband,” Mr Scott said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAreas with the worst broadband service will get priority under NBN Co\u2019s new rollout strategy.\u201d<\/p>\n
