They may only be small, but Kingaroy Hospital’s latest gifts are not only worth big dollars, their value is going to be priceless to local mums and their bubs.<\/p>\n

Kingaroy Hospital Women\u2019s and Children\u2019s Service presented representatives from Hitachi Machinery Company with a thank you plaque on Friday for the donation of two Masimo Monitors and a Jaundice Meter to the service.<\/p>\n

The Jaundice Meter – the small device being held at the right in the top photo – is worth $10,000 but is worth every cent.<\/p>\n

Acting Nurse Unit Manager Annelle Bradley said the device would allow staff to monitor jaundice in new-born babies by non-invasive methods, ie reducing the need for blood tests.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe machine is also portable which is especially handy given our location and the number of home visits we do with mums and bubs in the South Burnett,” she said.<\/p>\n

The two Masimo Monitors, worth a total of $18,000, are used to measure vital signs in babies.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey provide quick and reliable assessment of pulse, respiratory rate and oxygen saturation,” Ms Bradley said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAgain they\u2019re a portable device so they will be adaptable to a variety of care environments.\u201d<\/p>\n
