Motorists travelling between Cooyar and Crows Nest will have a slightly more pleasant drive following the completion of a new $10 million concrete bridge at Bum Bum Creek.<\/p>\n

The new two-lane bridge replaces the old single-lane timber structure and is positioned on a straighter alignment for improved safety.<\/p>\n

Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington, who officially opened the new bridge yesterday, said it was an example of the State Government delivering on its plan to provide better infrastructure for Queensland motorists.<\/p>\n

More than 1000 motorists use the bridge daily.<\/p>\n

Building commenced at the worksite last October and was undertaken by FK Gardner & Sons.<\/p>\n

In addition to constructing the new bridge, the project included a road realignment, 1250m of pavement works, linemarking and traffic installation.<\/p>\n

“By keeping the old timber bridge in use during the building phase we were able to minimise disruption to the local community and motorists as much as possible,” Mrs Frecklington said.<\/p>\n

“The old bridge will be demolished at a later date and materials will be re-used as much as possible on other projects.”<\/p>\n

Mrs Frecklington thanked the public for their patience during construction.<\/p>\n
