July 10, 2014<\/strong><\/p>\n A 30-year-old Kingaroy man who told police Queensland law didn’t apply to him has been sentenced to six months probation after pleading guilty to a number of charges in Kingaroy Magistrates Court today.<\/p>\n Jason Perkins, who appeared in custody via videolink, admitted possessing dangerous drugs, possessing instructions on producing dangerous drugs, unlicensed driving and driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle.<\/p>\n He also pleaded guilty to contravening a police direction.<\/p>\n Police Prosecutor Sgt Pepe Gangemi said a police search of a house in Windsor Circle, Kingaroy, had uncovered 129g of cannabis and a book about marijuana horticulture.<\/p>\n Sgt Gangemi said Perkins later told police Queensland law didn’t apply to him – although Perkins claimed these were not his “exact words”.<\/p>\n Solicitor Caroline Cavanagh said her client had a Bachelor of Science and was a recording artist, but drug use had “created some mental confusion for him over the years”.<\/p>\n Magistrate Bucknall said Perkins had a perverse view of the laws of the land and the need to comply with them.<\/p>\n He said Perkins had previously told him he had signed the bail warrant under duress “so I relieved him of that”.<\/p>\n Ms Cavanagh said her client had been in custody for a couple of weeks now which had given him time to think about his position.<\/p>\n “You seem to have a perverse view of the application of the laws and how they apply, or in your view don’t apply,” Mr Bucknall said.<\/p>\n “I assure you that is not the case.”<\/p>\n Perkins was placed on six months probation on the drugs charges and convicted and not further punished on the other counts.<\/p>\n
