{"id":73328,"date":"2014-07-05T08:05:56","date_gmt":"2014-07-04T22:05:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=73328"},"modified":"2014-07-11T14:41:38","modified_gmt":"2014-07-11T04:41:38","slug":"south-burnett-bowls-news-43","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2014\/07\/05\/south-burnett-bowls-news-43\/","title":{"rendered":"South Burnett Bowls News: 05-Jul-14"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mceTemp\">\n<dl id=\"attachment_53256\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\" style=\"width: 310px;\">\n<dt class=\"wp-caption-dt\"><a href=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/bowlsdinkus.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-53256\" title=\"SB Bowls dinkus \" src=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/bowlsdinkus.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" \/><\/a><\/dt>\n<dd class=\"wp-caption-dd\"><\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>by Jim Bond<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.4who.org.au\/\" target=\"_blank\">Wild Horse 99.7FM<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>July 5, 2014<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s been a bit of a chilly winter around the region this last week &#8211; sunny days but very, very cool nights and the occasional frost in some places to keep the greenkeepers worried.<\/p>\n<p>Still, the weather doesn&#8217;t seem to have deterred keen bowlers and there have been good roll-ups for lots of games.<\/p>\n<p>Most clubs are close to tidying up their Club Championship matches at the moment, and I have the results of several of these for you this week.<\/p>\n<p>So let&#8217;s jump right in:<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3><strong>Yarraman news:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The Yarraman Men\u2019s and Ladies clubs caught up on their club championships this week.<\/p>\n<p>In the Mixed Doubles championship &#8211; a quarter-final &#8211; Bill and Lorri Holmes defeated John and Jenny Moore 18-15. <\/p>\n<p>This win put Bill and Lorri into a semi-final against Neil and Di Currell, in a real nail-biter of a match that wound up turning into a battle of the long-enders.<\/p>\n<p>Bill and Lorri were away comfortably until end 14 when a five by the Currells evened things up a bit. <\/p>\n<p>The pressure was on from there, though, with the score at 20-all by end 20. <\/p>\n<p>The final end went to a measure, with only inches &#8211; or should I say millimetres &#8211; in it.<\/p>\n<p>But in the end the Currells triumphed, narrowly taking the match 21-20. <\/p>\n<p>The other half of the draw are now dragging the chain, with one quarter-final still to be played. <\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The Ladies B Singles final was also a very close affair, with Jenny Moore defeating Alison Anderson 25-23.<\/p>\n<p>And in the Men&#8217;s Bowls &#8211; Mixed Pairs:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Neil and Di Currell def. Daphne Stewart and Ron Lucas 25-23\n<li>Neil Johnston and Yvonne Schultz def. Robyn Diercke and David Douglass 29-12 (that was a much better game than the score shows)\n<\/ul>\n<p>In the early rounds of the Men&#8217;s Pairs, Neil Johnston and Christie MacLeod defeated Bill Holmes and Kev Profke 22-10.<\/p>\n<p>This was a great game to watch: Neil won quite a few ends with his last bowl.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>In the monthly Triples contest with Nanango last Saturday, there was a good roll-up with twelve teams in the competition &#8211; must have been horses for courses on this occasion!<\/p>\n<p>Yarraman walked away with bragging rights by bringing in the first, second, third and fourth placegetters.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Winners: John and Jenny Moore partnered by George Wolski &#8211; 42\n<li>Runners up: Neil Johnston, (He is in fine form lately),  Christie MacLeod and Andy Box &#8211; 38 on a count back on score\n<li>Third: Leo Robinson,  Nev Lawrence and Keith Carroll &#8211; 38\n<li>Fourth: Merv and Doreen Fitch with Daphne Stewart &#8211; 31\n<li>Athol and Ev Jensen and Lou Saunders &#8211; 29\n<li>Glen Yeates, Sue Tucker and John McConnell &#8211; 27\n<li>Bob Hall. Ben Pratap and Woody Hammond &#8211; 24\n<li>Rob Douglass, Todd and Sandra Currell &#8211; 20\n<li>Alan Ward, Henry Bliesner and Neil Currell &#8211; 20\n<li>Horst Myer, Ron Lucas and John Beattie &#8211; 18\n<li>Kev Profke, Alison Anderson and Yvonne Schultz &#8211; 18\n<li>Warren Arthur, Doris Drew and John Harwood &#8211; 16\n<\/ul>\n<p>And in Social Bowls:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>John Moore, Di Currell and John Beattie def. Horst Myer, Leo Robinson and Margaret Willoughby 17-11\n<li>Gloria Anderson, Robyn Diercke and Eileen Elliott drew Helene Johnson, Lola Harper and Yvonne Schultz 15-15\n<\/ul>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3><strong>Nanango news:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>In the Men\u2019s Championship Triples,  Allan Ward, Greg Pogson and Warren Arthur defeated Joe Aglizzio, Trevor George and Bob Hall 27-16.<\/p>\n<p>And in Friday&#8217;s Scroungers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Greg Pogson scraped on to the leader board with 38pts\n<li>Lew Saunders was a close runner-up, also with 38pts\n<li>Then Ben Pratap followed with 37pts\n<\/ul>\n<p>On Tuesday, in the Men\u2019s Social (Pairs) with conditions of play 1 for and end and 4 for a win:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Lew Saunders and Cec Bracken &#8211; 22pts\n<li>Nev Lawrence and Jim Fowler &#8211; 18pts\n<li>John McConnell and Ed Haycock &#8211; 15pts\n<li>Bob Hammond and Ben Pratrap &#8211; 9pts\n<\/ul>\n<p>Finally, in Wednesday&#8217;s Ladies Social, Glenis Yeates, Silvia Fanning and Sue Tucker drew with Di McNeilage, Muriel Benfield and Evelyn Jensen 14-all.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3><strong>Kilcoy news:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Kilcoy played its Club Championship Mixed Pairs this week:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pauline Lawson and Greg Staniforth defeated Kim Donovan and Harold Alford 20-13\n<li>Noel Lanes and Sharon Walker defeated Dozer Bechley and Fay Vicary &#8211; score next week\n<\/ul>\n<p>There was also a result in the Mixed Triples: Harold Alford, Kim Donovan and Tony Gray defeated Leigh Irwin, Liz Frawley and Dozer Bechly 19-12. <\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>On Tuesday in the Star of the Green, Pauline Lawson defeated Jenny Edwards. She will now play Margaret Worrall next week.<\/p>\n<p>And in the Social: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Greg Staniforth,  Lester Bechly, John Dagga and Flora def. John Worrall, Grahame Derryman, Val Wells and Liz Frawley 32-13\n<li>John Glanville, Brett Kelly, Marg Dahl and Terry Pratten def. Margaret Worrall, Tim Powell, Kathy Hill and Kim Donovan (score unknown)\n<li>Leigh Irwin, Harold Alford and Ernie Herbert def.
