Mr Q and Tori Somers helped to kick off the night of music on stage<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Some of the South Burnett’s most promising up-and-coming musos took to the stage last Saturday in Kingaroy to put their talents on show.<\/p>\n

The “Prickle Dog” concert was the culmination of an eight-month project run by Nanango counsellor Dean Love and backed by “Lives Well Lived”, a project aimed at empowering at-risk youth through music and letting them build self-worth and confidence by not censoring their self-expression.<\/p>\n

Five members of the Prickle Dog program took part in the concert and were joined on stage by other local musicians and DJs, including Mr Q, Tori Somers and DJ Direx.<\/p>\n

Murgon’s Andrew Beckett – who earlier recorded some of the Prickle Dog singers at his Bullroarer Studios – looked after the sound.<\/p>\n

Dean said the feedback from the night had been really good and the kids taking part had a good time.<\/p>\n

“They were stoked … they just can’t stop talking about it,” he said.<\/p>\n

There was a mixture of old-school rock’n’roll, country, rap, hip-hop and mixing, with a bit of death metal tossed in as well.<\/p>\n

As well as live rapping, several videos prepared during the Prickle Dog project were also projected on screen.<\/p>\n

Dean said because of funding cuts, it had now been left “high and dry” however there was huge community support for the project and many people still wanted it to go ahead.<\/p>\n
