The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service will conduct a planned burn – weather permitting – within the Wondai State Forest area tomorrow (July 2) as part of the annual hazard reduction\/conservation management program for parks and forests.<\/p>\n

As a result, smoke may be seen in the Cherbourg and Wondai areas.<\/p>\n

The aim of the burn is to reduce the volume of forest fuels and to create a mosaic pattern of burnt and unburnt areas within the park.<\/p>\n

This will help reduce the intensity of any subsequent wildfires and provide favourable conditions for natural forest regeneration.<\/p>\n

Smoke can decrease visibility on the roads so it is important that motorists drive safely to the conditions.<\/p>\n

Firefighters quickly extinguished a small grass fire that broke out on the Chinchilla Wondai Road near Wilkesdale this morning.
