South Burnett Regional Council has received a $4782 grant for a local publishing project to commemorate World War I veterans.<\/p>\n

The money, allocated to Maranoa electorate, will come from the Federal Government\u2019s ANZAC Centenary Grants Program.<\/p>\n

Member for Maranoa Bruce Scott said it would go towards the production and launch of a biographical book to recognise the service and sacrifice of local residents who served during the war.<\/p>\n

The book would be prepared by Year 9 students from the South Burnett.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe department received 1593 applications from across Australia so this is a wonderful result for the South Burnett region,\u201d Mr Scott said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI congratulate the South Burnett Regional Council and the community for their commitment to honouring local servicemen and women to ensure those who served and sacrificed will never be forgotten.”<\/p>\n

The SBRC has also applied for grants to support the project in the Wide Bay and Flynn electorates.<\/p>\n

UPDATE July 8: Member for Wide Bay, Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss announced yesterday that $4982 funding would also be made available to the project from allocations to the Wide Bay electorate.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Many South Burnett schoolchildren have been working on this project for months. They have completed their research and submitted their assignments for assessment.<\/p>\n

Organisers are now waiting to hear if their application to Flynn – which covers the towns of Proston and Wondai – will also be successful. <\/p>\n
