Despite an allocation of $70 million in the last Budget, the South Burnett Regional Council admits road repairs in the local region will take some time to be completed.<\/p>\n

However Mayor Wayne Kratzmann<\/strong> said Council was serious about fixing the problem.<\/p>\n

“We realise the flow-on effects to the rest of our community, our tourism and to our economy,” \u00a0Cr Kratzmann said.<\/p>\n

“We have already commenced work in the southern part of our region and work is ready to start on many more roads throughout the South Burnett.”<\/p>\n

Council Engineer Jeff Stephan said that at any time there were 20-30 work sites happening.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are focussed on making long-term improvements to our roads. Thorough planning has been done to ensure the work is done properly and lasts,\u201d Mr Stephan said.<\/p>\n

“After two years of floods it won\u2019t get fixed overnight but we will get there. The increase in allocated funds has certainly helped ramp up the amount of work being undertaken.”<\/p>\n

Cr Kratzmann said the Council had allocated more than $70 million in the latest Budget to improving local roads which included flood repairs.<\/p>\n

“This is a significant increase from the Council’s usual spend of $18 million,” he said.<\/p>\n

“The scheduled road work has been planned to ensure we get more bang for our buck. We are focussed on the works being cost effective and completed on time.”<\/p>\n
