The Kingaroy Library went a little bit potty today … but it was all in a good cause.<\/p>\n

The Library was playing host to three free, two-hour “Give It A Go” introductory pottery classes courtesy of the Jumping Ant Arts group and an RADF grant from the South Burnett Regional Council.<\/p>\n

The classes allowed complete beginners to try out the hobby by making a small “pinch pot” using air-dried clay.<\/p>\n

Students were guided through all the steps required to make a pot in each class by well-known South Burnett pottery tutor Fay Stumm.<\/p>\n

Fay has been potting for eight years, is a regular exhibitor at Kingaroy Regional Art Gallery and Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery, and has won several awards for her work.<\/p>\n

Jumping Ant Arts president Catherine Woodham said the course provided an ideal introduction to pottery because once students got good at making small pinch pots, they could make much larger forms using the same techniques.<\/p>\n

She said the courses had proved so popular that all three sessions were fully booked and a few people were now on a waiting list.<\/p>\n

Next month, Jumping Ant Arts will be holding a series of “Going Potty In The South Burnett” workshops at the 1913 Council Chambers behind the Kingaroy Visitor Information Centre.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The workshops will run over three weekends (July 19-20, July 26-27 and August 2-3) and have been designed so that participants will gain the confidence, knowledge and skills they need to make useful and creative items of their own design.<\/p>\n

Course fees are $105 to cover the cost of materials and expert tutoring.<\/p>\n
