There were some special visitors at Tanduringie State School today … Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington and members of the Maidenwell Community Group.<\/p>\n

Deb was appointed “Principal For The Day” at the school by the “real” principal Melanie Ludke.<\/p>\n

She supervised the school parade and afternoon activities.<\/p>\n

Deb said she had 36 schools in her electorate but she always loved coming to Tanduringie.<\/p>\n

“It reminds me of my own primary school,” she said.<\/p>\n

A highlight of the school parade was the announcement of the winner of the Maidenwell Community Group (MCG) logo competition.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The MCG, which is working on developing the future face of Maidenwell in conjunction with the South Burnett Regional Council, approached the school to develop a logo they could use on their letterheads and newsletters.<\/p>\n

The entries were judged by MCG members at the group’s last meeting.<\/p>\n

MCG president Gavin Jones said Belinda Spencer’s entry was chosen because it identified Maidenwell, showing the Bunya Mountains in the background and the Coomba waterhole in the foreground.<\/p>\n

He presented her with a $50 cash prize.<\/p>\n

Gavin also gave the “principal” a box of sweets to distribute to all the children who had also suggested logos.<\/p>\n

MCG member Max Forsyth also presented the school with a Kingaroy Bottlebrush (Callistemon\u00a0formosus) as a thank you gesture for taking part in the competition.<\/p>\n

The MCG plans to ask the school students to plant trees in Maidenwell as a future part of their landscaping project.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
