The South Burnett Regional Council, in conjunction with the Queensland Fire and Emergency Service, has organised a two-day Disaster Resilience Leadership workshop for local community leaders.<\/p>\n

The program will be held from 9:00am to 4:00pm on Friday and Saturday (June 13-14) at the Highway Christian Church in Kingaroy and will be delivered by Volunteering Queensland.<\/p>\n

\u201cCouncil is excited about partnering with Volunteering Queensland to deliver this course. It is aimed to equip people with the skills to become a better leader in a disaster situation,\u201d Deputy Mayor Cr Keith Campbell said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are looking for people strategically located across the region to attend this course. It would be an ideal situation to have community people situated throughout the South Burnett ready with the skills to help out their community in the event that we have another natural disaster.<\/p>\n

\u201cOver the last few years and during the floods we have some amazing people who step up during these times. This is a great opportunity for current and future leaders to further develop their leadership skills.<\/p>\n

“We need to get the message out there that it\u2019s not too late to register. Attending this course will increase preparedness and empower communities to respond to disasters.\u201d<\/p>\n

The course is part of Volunteering Queensland Inc\u2019s “Step Up Program” which is focussed on building community resilience to natural disasters by empowering a diverse range of community stakeholders with the necessary knowledge, tools and resources to build community self-reliance.<\/p>\n

It is being funded by the Foundation For Rural and Regional Renewal.<\/p>\n
