The second annual Mayoral Charity Gala Ball has raised more than $20,000 for local charities and not-for-profit groups.<\/p>\n

The glittering black tie event, held on Saturday night in the Kingaroy Town Hall, was sponsored by Meandu Mine (Stanwell Corporation, Downer EDI Mining and Hitachi Construction Machinery).<\/p>\n

It attracted about 370 people who each enjoyed a three-course dinner and a night of cabaret-style entertainment by top Australian singer David Campbell and his band.<\/p>\n

The night began with champagne and hors d’oeuvres served in the Glendon Street Forecourt.<\/p>\n

Moving into the town hall, Channel 9 newsreader Heather Foord took over as compere while the guests enjoyed dinner prepared by Mike Giles and his team from the Booie Bello Vista.<\/p>\n

Mayor Wayne Kratzmann said today it had been a spectacular night and he believed everyone had a wonderful time.<\/p>\n

The charity auction raised about $15,000.<\/p>\n

Mayor Kratzmann said it had been an expensive night but worthwhile. And although profits were still being calculated, he could safely say more than $20,000 had been raised.<\/p>\n

All profits will go to the Mayor’s Community Benefit Fund which distributes grants to the region\u2019s non-profit organisations.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Grant recipients are determined by a special committee, chaired by former councillor Cheryl Dalton, which consists of non-council representatives from each of the South Burnett Regional Council area’s six divisions.<\/p>\n

So far, money has been allocated to sporting groups (Round 1) and mental health initiatives (Round 2).<\/p>\n

While the annual gala ball is the major fundraiser, money is also topped up by other public events such as Mayoral breakfasts and the upcoming Kingaroy Community Bike Ride.<\/p>\n

Mayor Kratzmann said this year there would also be a special $15,000 available for distribution, with applications closing in July.<\/p>\n

“The only conditions for this are that it must go to a not-for-profit group, it has to help people, and it must stay in the South Burnett,” he said.<\/p>\n
