Retailers in Markwell Street, Kingaroy, have been protesting against the loss of car parking spaces<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The installation of traffic lights at the corner of Markwell and Kingaroy streets in Kingaroy is being hailed by motorists and police, but some local retailers are less pleased.<\/p>\n

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR), which is installing the lights, has earmarked centre car parking spaces on either side of the intersection for removal.<\/p>\n

However, the Kingaroy Chamber of Commerce and Industry says pressure from local businesses to save at least some of the spots has paid off.<\/p>\n

TMR recently received correspondence from several of the businesses.<\/p>\n

A TMR spokesman told the KCCI the loss of some parking spaces was unfortunately unavoidable to improve safety at the busy intersection.<\/p>\n

“However based on community feedback, TMR has since revisited the original design and determined the design could be altered to reduce the number of centre car parking spaces required for the upgrade without significantly jeopardising the performance of the intersection,” the KCCI said.<\/p>\n

“TMR can confirm four centre parking spaces which were originally to be removed will now remain on each leg of Markwell Street.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
