Kingaroy businesswoman Cheri Carr was named the “Face” of the 2012 South Burnett Relay For Life<\/a><\/strong> at the official event launch held in Kingaroy on Saturday.<\/p>\n

The “face” is a cancer survivor who has volunteered to assist with promoting the annual fundraising event for the Cancer Council, so we can expect to see a lot more of her in the lead-up to the big weekend which will be held on October 13-14.<\/p>\n

The official Patron for the 2012 event was also revealed: former Test cricketer Carl Rackemann.<\/p>\n

Carl said more than $500,000 had been raised by the Relay For Life in the South Burnett in the seven years that the event has been staged.<\/p>\n

“One year we raised the most per capita in Queensland,” he said.<\/p>\n

That year was 2008 when Wayne Kratzmann (now mayor of the South Burnett Regional Council), \u00a0Brad Weller and Russell “Skippy” Exelby trudged around the South Burnett – through Yarraman, Nanango, Goomeri, Murgon, Wondai, Tingoora, Wooroolin and Kingaroy – and held fund-raisers in each town.<\/p>\n

The 2012 South Burnett Relay For Life will be held at Kingaroy Showgrounds on October 13 and 14.<\/p>\n

Organisers have set a fund-raising target of $85,000.<\/p>\n

Highlights will include the Survivors Walk during the opening ceremony for Carers and Survivors.\u00a0Candle tributes will also be lit to remember friends and family who have died.<\/p>\n
