It’s not great having a mental illness, but it’s awesome to know there’s help available and that you can get better.<\/p>\n

This was the positive message shared at “Awesome In The Forecourt” in Kingaroy on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Billed as a “community event promoting health and well-being”, the afternoon in the Glendon Street Forecourt featured live music, free snags and plenty of information about local health services.<\/p>\n

Guest speaker was ABC Grandstand broadcaster Craig Hamilton<\/a><\/strong> who told how he was literally on his way to the cover the Sydney Olympic Games when he had a psychotic episode at a railway station and ended up handcuffed in the back of a paddy wagon.<\/p>\n

Craig described how being diagnosed with bipolar disorder was the start of his recovery.<\/p>\n

Local singer Lloyd Back warmed up the crowd before the main act, John Schumann and Hugh McDonald with The Vagabond Crew, came on stage.<\/p>\n

This is the third time the group has visited Kingaroy to help promote mental health.<\/p>\n

John and Hugh sang some of their old Redgum hits before performing – for only the second time publicly – their new single “Awesome Day”, based on a children’s book character, Danny Allen, who’s growing up on a farm.<\/p>\n

“Awesome In The Forecourt” was brought to Kingaroy by Rural and Remote Mental Health.<\/p>\n
