The RSPCA is encouraging South Burnett owners to desex their pets by offering a 20 per cent discount at participating vets for the next 3 months<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

June 1, 2014<\/strong><\/p>\n

RSPCA Qld and selected vets in the South Burnett will be joining forces from today in a major desexing campaign called “Operation Wanted”.<\/p>\n

The campaign, which will run for three months, will see vets reducing their desexing and microchipping prices by 20 per cent in an effort to reduce the number of unwanted litters.<\/p>\n

As a further incentive for the public to take advantage of the offer, participants will get the chance to win a $1200 BP petrol voucher and an entry into a draw to win a family holiday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are countless dogs and cats in our community that are homeless or end up in RSPCA shelters or council pounds,” RSPCA Qld spokesperson Michael Beatty said.<\/p>\n

\u201cDespite working tirelessly to reduce the number of these animals, our data clearly shows that there has been no reduction in the numbers in recent years.<\/p>\n

“The RSPCA believes this is partly explained by a low desex rate amongst domestic pets. We believe that increasing the number of dogs and cats de-sexed before they have a chance to breed should, over time, reduce the number ending up in our facilities.\u201d<\/p>\n

The South Burnett is one of nine regions involved in the campaign. The others are: Bundaberg, Gympie, Moreton Bay, Noosa, Sunshine Coast, North Burnett, Toowoomba and Townsville.<\/p>\n

RSPCA Qld has developed a website <\/strong><\/a>specifically for this promotion and all participating veterinary practices will be listed on the site.<\/p>\n
